INSTRUCTIONS FOR HAPPINESS

Instructions for happiness - an absurd promise?
Happiness is considered one of the basic human emotions. We all certainly strive to achieve this state in one way or another. But situations and things that make one happy are often not easy to come across - usually we experience them unexpectedly and by ourselves. It is upon this personal pursuit of happiness that this exhibition has set its focus. (Vienna edition)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR HAPPINESS

Happiness can be understood as a human need. And the exhibition is all about the personal pursuit for happiness. But instructions for happiness? As happiness is quite an individual matter, instructions for happiness are of course a pretty absurd promise. (Athens edition)

SIMONIDES

The exhibition is grounded on the legendary life and work of Simonides, focusing on important publications such as the Symais (1849), the Painter’s Manual of Dionysios of Phourna (1853), the Codex Sinaiticus, his decipherment of hieroglyphs and the palimpsest of the Shepherd of Hermas, a part of which can be found today in the Austrian National Library (ÖNB).

Whether one has experienced the Greek political and financial crisis directly or not, its social repercussions are surely worth reflecting upon. The main objective of the exhibition is to shed a different light on the crisis, dwelling less on the political or financial situation and more on people's daily lives and rhythms in a society in turmoil.

Wolf in town

The natural need of the artist is the expression and each artist individually expresses in his own unique way his need for a change and for a brighter future which fits us all. The exhibitions mirrors the effort of autonomous modules in the frame of a general concept which reflects the contributors of " ΛΥΚΟS" magazine.

tHE OAR AND THE WINGS
THE MYTH OF ODYSSEY IN MODERNIST LITERATURE AND FILM

In the context of a challenging and highly innovative approach to comparative media studies, Maria Oikonomou examines the myth of the Odyssey in 20th Century literature and cinema (Joyce, Pound, Rilke, Pascoli, Seferis, together with Godard and Kubrick) to shed new light on the poetics of modernism whose recourse to the Odyssey proves to be anything but accidental.

Upcoming events

Four years after the founding of the association, the members have decided to run a space that will host permanent art exhibitions, cultural projects and discourses with a focus on socio-political issues. Five major exhibitions per year are going to be curated by us and two exhibitions by guest curators. As format, there will be both solo exhibitions and thematic group exhibitions, for which a high proportion of the artistic contributions will be newly produced. We will try to present projects that regain exhibiting as an experimental and participatory field. There is already a program of artist talks, lectures, discussions, screenings, sound / music and readings that will take place once a week. The discussion of a topic can then, regardless of the duration of the exhibition, be followed over several months, a year, or even longer. The core of the project for the first year will be a series of exhibitions that will deal with topics and debates of our times. Through questions about society and our social self, the role of women and the topic of alpha males in a homosexual field, the problem of migration and the idea of obsession, the lost relationship of man with nature, will form the basis for a first confrontation between observer and artist set.

More information to be announced - approx. January 2019.
